The inspiration behind our Blackbird & Bramble print for Autumn/Winter 2016
“I particularly love this time of year when the seasons are in transition and the light is softer. There is so much to harvest in the slanting evening sunshine, the hedgerows laden with dark shiny treasure and the air still warm. We pick blackberries for puddings, balanced precariously on tip toe trying to get at the cluster of really big ripe ones just out of reach. The bowl gradually gets fuller but inevitably much of it is crammed into our mouths before it gets back to the kitchen. Hands stained, tummy full. ”

We love late summer in the British countryside and we wanted to evoke this in our new Blackbird & Bramble print.
We worked hard on the colours for this and experimented with many options. Black for the bird and berries was too strong, so we chose a very dark, inky, purpley blue, softened by pink coming up through the leaves. We usually work in two colours but we felt the yellow was essential to create focus around the bird’s beak and eye
” I walk my children to school across Heathland every morning and like to think that the same blackbird greets us most mornings, poking his head out of the hedgerow and checking we’re on time. There is something enchanting about his bright yellow beak and sideways glance from his beady eye.”

The cosmetic bag is new for us. We spent the early part of this year sampling. Bags have always been on our to do list and we had many team meetings to discuss what we all wanted in a cosmetic bag. Each of the team brought their own bag and explained why they liked it, what worked and what didn’t. We have ended up with a beautiful, hand printed, hand made bag, lined with grey material which is waterproof and doesn’t feel tacky. The grey and gold zip was a mission, but we got there in the end.
We are really proud of this new product and it really suits the little blackbird. We launched it online a few weeks ago and I think we got it right – it’s already sold out once!
